1. The state license, from TDLR
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) licenses mold assessment and mold remediation and publishes its license records as public files, updated daily. We download them and keep only companies whose license status is current. Today that is 655 companies, out of 10,172 mold licenses of every kind.
We leave out organizations licensed only for their own buildings, such as school districts and public agencies, because they don't take outside work.
2. Testing or removal, never both on one job
Each company is labeled by its license: assessment (testing and writing the removal plan) or remediation (removing the mold to that plan). Texas law bars one company from doing both on the same project. 6 companies hold both kinds of license; we list them once and flag it, so you can hire them for one job or the other, not both.
3. Google reviews
We match each licensed company to its Google Business listing by phone number, or by an identical name in the same city, and show its rating and review count. 409 of 655 companies are matched so far. A company we couldn't match still appears, without a rating.
What we don't verify
- Insurance, bonding or industry certifications such as IICRC. Ask for proof before work starts.
- The quality of anyone's work. A license is a minimum, not a guarantee.
- Whether a license changed after our last update. Confirm it on TDLR's license search before you hire.
